So, you’ve finally landed that big interview you had your heart set on! Now, you’re in the hot seat and all is going perfectly well on the interview. And then you’re asked on of the hardest interview question ever: “What is your biggest weakness?” We all can agree that this is an important interview question interviewees have the most difficult time answering. Your answer holds a lot of weight to how the interviewer perceives you. So make sure you adequately prepare yourself for this question while job hunting.
During their hiring processes, companies want to ensure that they employ the best candidates who will be beneficial additions to their team. Their goal is to narrow down the candidate pool to incorporate only the qualified. Therefore, they ask the hardest interview question in efforts to throw you off in order to see in which direction to send you.
Additionally, asking about your biggest weakness allows an employer to uncover your flaws as an employee. Your answer to this question gives the employer a glimpse into the nature of your character and how you are as worker. We all have weaknesses that cause us to make mistakes at times. However, it is how you recover from those mistakes that tell your true character. Therefore, it’s important to identify your weaknesses in order to learn how to triumph over your mistakes. Once you’ve determined what your weaknesses are, carefully select your answer based on the flow of the interview and the nature of the position. Then, use examples in your previous employment to explain how you handled it. Turn the actions you’ve taken to conquer this weakness into your strengths. Do not dwell too much on the negative aspects. Simply state what your biggest weakness is and then highlight all the positive steps taken to overcome it.
