These are stressful times. The technology that was supposed to make life easier, has driven us to push harder and work longer hours. Here are five ideas to help your employees relieve stress on the job, relax the mind, strengthen health and increase company morale.
1. Create an area within the office where workers can spend a few minutes eating or chatting with coworkers.
It may be a kitchen or a lounge or just an empty office. The area doesn’t need to be fancy, but it should be inviting and clean. Allow employees to personalize this area with photos or items that they contribute. Then implement short breaks during the day.
2. Have team building meetings where managers and workers can come together and bond.
This may be a monthly arrangement or be held on an as needed basis, but staff will look forward to connecting with you.
3. Hold company outings for your talent to bond outside the workplace.
It may be an outing where you do some charity work or perhaps just a social outing at the local coffee shop. This will help the employees to feel comfortable.
4. Demonstrate a good work and life balance yourself.
Your staff is looking to you for an example. If you are answering emails on vacation and staying until 11pm each night, the staff will feel compelled to do the same. Set up ground rules, such as no emails after 8pm or on weekends. This will eleviate any stressful feelings.
5. Encourage employees to take their allotted time off.
Vacations and personal time are essential to a feeling of well-being and increases productivity amongst the staff.
